Flooding Causes Hundreds of Road Closures Across Southern Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY – Heavy rainfall is causing problems for motorists, especially in southern portions of Missouri.  Currently, there are 434 flood closures, most of which are on minor routes south of Interstate 44, and more rain is forecast.

Knowledge of road conditions can help drivers avoid delays and unsafe conditions. Before you go, check the Missouri Department of Transportation's Traveler Information Map at www.modot.org to get up-to-date information on the latest road conditions and closings due to high water.

The interactive map is updated continually and is easy to use.  You can pan in and out for a broad perspective of statewide road conditions or double click an icon or area to zoom in for a more local, street-level view.  Hold the mouse over an icon for more details on the route, date, time and condition.  Double click on a region of the map that has several icons to unstack them and better see which routes are affected.  For a text-only version that gives information by county and route, click on the flooding icon in the legend on the left side of the page.

Travelers can also call MoDOT's toll-free number, 888-ASK-MODOT, to get road condition information.
